'French Justice Is Irresponsible and Puts Money before Life', Says Father of Flight 447 Victim

Air France and Airbus were acquitted of involuntary manslaughter over the crash that killed 228 on a Rio-Paris trip in 2009

The president of the Association of Relatives of the Victims of Flight 447, Nelson Faria Marinho, criticized, this Monday (17), the decision of the French Justice to clear Airbus and Air France for the tragedy. "Life is worth more than any amount of money, but in France, capital comes before human life," said Marinho, who lost his 40-year-old son in a plane crash on July 1, 2009.

14 years after the accident, the court of appeal in Paris acquitted the airline and the aircraft manufacturer of the charge of manslaughter, when there is no intention to kill. Altogether 216 passengers and 12 crew members died. 53 victims were Brazilian.

The president of the court, Sylvie Daunis stated that "there is no sure causal link between the recklessness/negligence and the accident".

Marinho classified the French judges as "partial", considering that the magistrates are paid by the government of the country where the companies are located.
