Bolsonaro Clashes with Maia and Alcolumbre by Failing to Condemn the Capitol Invasion

Pro-Trump activists stormed into the US Congress building during Biden's victory confirmation session

Brasília

President Jair Bolsonaro has clashed with the heads of the Brazilian National Congress, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ) and Davi Alcolumbre (DEM-AP), by failing to condemn the invasion of the US Capitol, on Wednesday (6), by supporters of President Donald Trump.

When asked by a supporter in front of Palácio do Alvorada, in Brasília, the president said that there were "a lot of fraud allegations" in the American elections in which the Republican candidate lost to Joe Biden.

“I followed everything. You know I'm connected to Trump, you already know my answer. Now, [there were] a lot of reports of fraud, a lot of them. I said this a while ago, the press said 'without proof, President Bolsonaro said that the American elections were rigged'. ”

The presidents of the Chamber and of the Senate of Brazil, Maia and Alcolumbre, instead, have described the acts in Washington as unacceptable in any democracy and an act of despair.
