Bolsonaro Says The Time Has Come to Break with The Constitution, and Fux Reacts

President doubles down on coup threat and attacks Supreme Court Justice

Brasília

Jair Bolsonaro doubled down on his coup threat, attacked Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, and repeated that he could abandon the democratic field. The president made the statements and threats during a program on Radio 93 FM, a gospel station in Rio.

"His time [Moraes] will come. Because he's been playing outside the margins of the Constitution for a long time. I don't intend to go outside the boundaries to question these authorities, but I believe the time is coming," he said.

Bolsonaro intensified his statements against the Supreme Court, the electoral system, and democracy after Moraes included him in an investigation into the dissemination of electoral fake news.

The decision follows the request of the president of the Superior Electoral Court, Luís Roberto Barroso. Barroso reacted to repeated statements by Bolsonaro on fraud in the electoral system, for which there is no proof. Bolsonaro has talked about making the 2022 election conditional on the paper ballot.

The president of the STF, Luiz Fux, canceled a meeting of the heads of the Powers. "Efficient dialogue presupposes a permanent commitment to one's words, which, unfortunately, we have not seen."
