The President of The Senate Rejected Bolsonaro's Impeachment Request against Supreme Court Justice

In another defeat in the clash with the Supreme Court, the president tried to prohibit an inquiry without the approval of the Public Ministry

The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (DEM-MG), rejected President Jair Bolsonaro's impeachment request against Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes this Wednesday (25).

Amid his escalating pro-coup discourse and the series of attacks on members of the court, Bolsonaro also filed a lawsuit against Moraes last Friday (20) and, in addition to his removal from office, asked for the removal of the magistrate from his public functions for eight years.

In addition to this, the president suffered another defeat in his confrontation with the Supreme Court. Justice Edson Fachin ordered the dismissal of a lawsuit in which Bolsonaro asked the court to annul the article of the regiment that authorized the opening of an inquiry without the approval of the Public Ministry.

In regards to the request for impeachment of Moraes, Pacheco said that he based his decision on an opinion issued by the attorney general of the Senate, which concluded that there was no just cause for the Justice's removal.
